Project Brief

In this project, I was tasked with redesigning a book cover of my choice. he cover graphic can set a mood or hint at what the reader might experience inside its covers. As well, typography is integral to book design by confirming the message of the image. I was also encouraged to think metaphorically and/or symbolically in order to transform my words into pictures. My objectives were to; concentrate on typographic form as the main image of a design, explore typographic form and solutions to communicate a message, be expressive and creative with typography, and to experiment with hand-lettered and vectorized typographic forms.

Concept Brief

The book in which I decided to redesign was the iconic Matilda by Raul Dahl. I chose it because both the book and the movie played big parts in my childhood. Any book by Raul Dahl felt really special and brought me a lot of joy. Because of this, I felt an extra bit of motivation while creating this cover. My original bit if inspiration came from all of the little objects that Matilda would move with her mind, but as you can see in my process, I decided to focus on the reading and knowledge aspect of the story.
